Sippy cup, anyone?

Anyone know how to get a child to take a sippy cup? Joey is ADAMENT about NO SIPPY CUPS. He sees one and cries horribly. Doc says he needs to get off the bottle by the end of November and head straight for table food. The food part I don't think will be a problem, but the no bottle thing - that will be a challenge. I know he doesn't have to be off the bottle right on his one year birthday, but I'd like to try.

Most kids are afraid of the sippy cups for a couple reasons.( or at least my kids & nephews were)

1) they are afraid of choking or getting strangled
2) some of them require a lot of sucking to get the liquid out which frustrates them

What we did with our kids is got a sippy cup nipple that was interchangeable with a bottle to get them used to the sucking mechanisms. You can use these even on the Lil Gerber bottle drinks, apple juice etc. Try that for a week or so then gradually take it to the cup.

My sister-in-law also used the Gerber Nuk cups from Walmart with the latex spout. The handle comes off so he actually will think its a bottle. Once hes mastered it you can put them back on.

When Kel & Josh were little we got their favorite stuffed animal & pretended to be feeding it. The kids loved it and soon would try to feed the little critters all the while trying the cup themselves.
